ARTIST’S STATEMENT
When shooting, it’s often not the subject that’s of primary interest to me. Instead, my eye is drawn to pattern, light and juxtaposition of space to object. Eliminating extraneous details before taking a photograph, I edit as I compose and in most cases shoot full frame. Consequently, when taken out of context and isolated from its familiar surroundings, a subject sometimes becomes unidentifiable and frequently takes on a mysterious, somewhat painterly quality. In this day of computer manipulation and digital wizardry, my photos — usually uncropped and using only natural light — are a throwback to a less complex time. For me it's not about creating a new reality; it's about the power of a line, a shape and/or an image in real time.

TECHNICAL DETAILS
I shoot with a Nikon D80 or N90 mounted with an AF Nikkor 70-300mm lens. For D90, I use Fuji 400-ASA  color film; negatives are then digitalized on a flatbed scanner. From my photo files, gilcée prints are done on archival paper.
